High Knee Lift Anybody?

Introduced to this by Coach. And I thought, how difficult could today's intervals be??

Started on the wrong foot in the evening. Went out of the flat all ready to run. 200m and I stopped and uturned back. I was exhausted. Work was not that great today and mentally fatigued. Decided to rest a while and continue at night.

Intervals of 4x800m, 4x400, 4x100m, 4x50m high knee lifts, 4x50m and 800m warm down. How difficult cant that be when the intensity and distances are not as high as previous ones? With the fatigue despite the 1.5hr sleep before dinner, the high knee lifts were the toughest of the lot! I could not even last 100m without stopping! Coach told me to research on Arthur Lydiard's proven method of training. I am still in the midst of reading the articles online and will be buying one of his books when I get the time to do it. Apparently, this was one of the routines... Oh my... Dare I ask for more?... We will see about that.

Age does change the perspectives, at least mine? I was communicating with a friend from work. I like the VW Scirocco. The contours of the car, the new small engine, BUT I just cant see myself driving the car any more. Its just like a couple of years back, I wanted to buy a Crumpler bag for work purposes? My wife told me to act my age? So yes, gone are the days of such young flashy cars. I will probably have to go into the "older" badges, Volvos, Audis, Mercs and at best a VW Golf R? Amusing. Maybe a few more years down the road, perspective will change again. Never know.

  1. I never thought i'll meet anyone as into tri as into cars. Young flashy cars? My friend's Father in Law at 60 took a Golf GTi, is that age appropriate? Maybe so. I often told myself 3 series is for over 30. Taking from a functionality standpoint. it's that 30cm-thereabouts extra cabin space comfort. No sloping roof like a scirocco, and looks like a decent hatchback. I fail to see why VW would introduce a car with similar engine capacity, in the same hothatch market. Take for eg, The Scirocco R was launched on 16th July night. Personally i'll take a Golf R over the Scirocco R anytime. And i am not old, yet, as i always tell Reeves. That being said, i always pondered what car do i buy next. Something for a future family of bikes, kids and knickknacks. i def love my cars more than my bike, and i'll try to color coordinate them. And of cos, engine capacity and horsepower does make a different. And i'll make sure i try to buy a car with a turbo engine, since i am lacking a human turbo on the bike, might as well get something on the car.
:) And yes, age does change perspectives.

  2. I suppose the time has come for cars to go green. With smaller capacity, fuel consumption decreases for the same amount of power. Not quite the same as the hydrogen fuel cells nor the electric cars, but taking into consideration the readiness of these infrastructures in the world, it might possibly be a good step to saving the world? The massive beasts of hypercars are a small volume to be pose too much of a concern. The mass market should be the target for fuel reduction. Turbo diesel cars are great too. The diesel engine technology has come a long way since the carbarator generation. Oh well, we will have to wait and see who is brave enough to say enough is enough and put an end to the oil cartel.
I digress am afraid. But yes, the more senior I got, the more I like the subtle WRX and EVO killers, in the like of the RS4s, which costs more than what I can afford. My favourite? The Lotus Elise or the Exige. Not a day to day car apparently but would love to see how sweet it handles.

  3. Well, having a wide circle of friends through the years of being a motorhead, and driven an evo, dc5r, and ah beng chiahs, i have gone to love RS6 (was behind one, and it was sweet) or even the panamera ( so nice and huge porsche)... one day i'll earn enough to own them. The lotus was one of the cars i would love to have, it's tinier than my big red go-kart, and drives like a dream (so i thought). Barely 20 minutes into the ride (from paya lebar workshop to a condo off siglap area), i nearly wanted to hit the person next to me in the car. Stiff, uncomfy, ZERO ride comfort, so what if it handles great. I wonder how some friends can tolerate such a ride all the way to Sepang. OMG. The GTR however delivers power for the amount of dollar you spent. I sat around it on the track... and it was a beauty, almost dummy proof to drive. Love it, but maintenance is too high, and god forbid my thought, but i would use that money to jus drive a porsche boxster s. I am still a girl.

With green cars, there's no incentive given by local government. A friend of mine got his in Bay Area (SF), as the Californian government decided to throw an incentive. But at around 85k for a prius locally, compared to maybe 50k for a regular car. I don't see myself spending 35k ever on petrol.

I always think diesel cars taxes are charged wrongly. It's high, and now with the rising cost of diesel, most cars gone petrol instead. Which is WRONG! Emissions by diesel cars are much cleaner and greener for our environment. When would anyone stop and listen? We need changes, pronto!

  4. Of course the diesel car tax is wrong! BUT if you consider the efficiency of the diesel cars, a full tank of 800km mileage, how much of Singapore can we travel in, versus the income from less efficient petrol cars, which sound mind will want to go in direction of diesel cars? Road tax here I suppose is different from Europe, where the concern is about emission I think? Our road tax is about road usage end of the day.

Yup, heard GTR is really high cost of maintenance. Something like 5000km with ATF and engine oil change, which cost like $3k and above? I think that is madness! Car is affordable, but not quite to maintain. It is a really cheap supercar eater. Since it cost so much lesser than them, the rest of the cost will have to go into the servicing of the car?

The Lotus is cheaper than the RS4 and the RS6. Yeah, and heard about the comfort level of the car. Its not meant to be driven daily, and probably used for track more than anything else. Sigh. I would love to have the RS4 anytime, really. Its a sedan. It has the power without the turbo. Its a sleeper car. It can almost match the horse and the ox. Best of all? It also comes with the cabriolet! Too bad, my money does not grow on trees. I wish! :)
